This might be to do with that some shades of Carnelian do resemble flesh however this is a very uncommon shade as most pieces vary between brown and orange. Carnelian has been found in many locations around the world with some of the best specimens coming from South African countries and India.

During Ancient times Carnelian was often placed inside burial tombs and graveyards as was believed to help protect the deceased on their journey into the after-life. This has some standing with the way Carnelian is still used today.
